Welcome to the America Reads at UNC Charlotte
America Reads, Work Study funded tutoring program, is one of the ReadWriteServe programs of the Center for Adolescent Literacies at UNC Charlotte. This wiki provides our America Reads tutors with useful tools, training schedules, and other information useful in their tutoring.
America Reads tutors work two to three times a week in the community at schools and other sites to help elementary aged students (learners) with reading and math. ReadWriteServe provides and pays all tutors for training and ongoing support and provides tutors with tutor handbooks and materials. All America Reads tutors must qualify for the Federal Work Study program. Eligibility is determined by the Office of Financial Aid as determined by information on your FAFSA form. To find out if you qualify for this program, contact the Office of Financial Aid. Our tutors make between $10 and $15 an hour.
New America Reads tutors must attend initial tutor training before they begin tutoring--click here for dates and times.
We have some exciting new opportunities and news for our tutors including ways to get some extra tutoring hours at drop-in tutoring sites. We have also scheduled two America Reads Read-Ins at the University City Public Library. Check out News & Events for more information.
